Most of the territory of the Lower Rhine was occupied by four prince-electors - three archbishops (Mainz, Trier, and Cologne) and the secular ruler of Lower (Rhenish) Palatinate. The collection also includes a set of engravings of the Rhine done according to originals by Johann van Call.
