From the 18th century the plains in northwest Germany were divided between the British king who ruled here from the title of the Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg, and a number of small secular and religious rulers. Cartographic production is supplemented by a number of vedute, elevations of buildings and a few melancholy engravings of the North Sea coast.
